The Screecher™ is a bird control (scarring) payload that has been designed for use with our AeroDrone systems. It is powered by a 12V DC source and operates completely independent of the drone. This also allows Screecher to be used on other types of drones as well.
Below is a hardware overview diagram that shows all the major components of the Screecher payload.
Size (W x L x H) | 130 x 110 x 110mm |
Weight | 304g (excl. power cable) |
Power Input | 12V DC |
The power switch enables the unit to operate. It is located in the
upper right hand corner of the control panel (as shown below).
Slide the switch to the “ON” position to start the unit and the “OFF” position to turn it off.
The volume dial is located on the upper left-hand side of the control panel (as shown below).
Turning the dial anti-clockwise will reduce sound output level while rotating the dial clockwise will increase the sound output level.
To program your Screecher Bird Control Payload you will need a small blade screwdriver, toothpick, or some other small, rigid object to toggle the switches in the switch array. The switch array is located on the right-hand side of the control panel (on the back of the unit) as shown below.
A switch is ON when switched towards the right-hand side and OFF when towards the left-hand side. This is indicated with “ON”, “OFF” labels underneath the switch array.
The Recording Setting Switches (shown below) are the first eight switches in the switch array (labeled “1” to “8”). Each switch has a recording number to the right of it that corresponds to a different sound recording.
The Mode Setting Switches (shown below) set the various modes of operation, such as the amount of time between playing bird distress calls (the “Time-Off”), when the unit will operate (ie. day only, night only or 24 hours, AKA the “Schedule Time”), and whether the unit will operate in the random mode or normal mode.
Switch # | Mode or Function |
1 and 2 | Sets the “Time Off” Period |
3 and 4 | Sets the “Schedule Time” Period |
5 | Turns Random Mode ON or OFF |
The two “Time-Off” switches are located just below the recording switches in the switch array. When the unit is set to one of the various Time-Off modes, the unit will delay a number of seconds or minutes between playing the recorded sounds.
The time the unit stays off depends on the Time-Off and Random Mode settings. If the unit is operating in Random Mode, the unit will delay anywhere from the minimum value to the maximum value for that Time-off setting. If the unit is not in Random Mode, it will only delay for the minimum amount of time.
To set the Time-Off period (or delay interval), use the following settings on switches 1 and 2 in the mode settings section of the switch array.
Switch 1 | Switch 2 | Time-Off Period | |
ON | OFF | Short | |
MIN 17 sec | MAX 50 sec | ||
OFF | ON | Medium | |
MIN 1 min | MAX 4 min 15 sec | ||
ON | ON | Long | |
MIN 5 min | MAX 10 min | ||
OFF | OFF | Extra Long | |
MIN 10 min | MAX 30 min |
The two “Schedule Time” switches are located just under the “Time-Off” switches in the bottom switch array.
To set the time period for the unit to operate set switches 3 and 4 in the Mode Function settings to the following:
Switch 3 | Switch 4 | Mode |
ON | OFF | Day Mode |
OFF | ON | 24-Hour Mode |
ON | ON | Night Mode |
OR | ||
OFF | OFF |
The Random Mode Switch is the bottom switch in the switch array. The unit will randomly play the selected recordings in non-sequential order when operating in Random Mode. When the unit is not operating in the Random Mode, the unit will play the selected recordings in a sequential order. Random Mode is recommended to keep birds from adapting to a preset pattern of sounds.
To operate the unit in Random Mode, set switch 5 as follows:
Switch 5 | Mode |
ON | Random Mode ON |
OFF | Random Mode OFF |
